Genoa and Liguria
Genoa, gateway to the Mediterranean sea, is a charming city, rich of its 26 Centuries long history, hiding unexpected treasures of art and culture; a city that deserves to be discovered, strolling around its narrow alleys, the small squares, the steep uphills and the sudden views of sky and sea.
Besides glimpses that seems to come from the Middle Ages, precious baroque churches and an extraordinary museums net, in the historical center you can also find the splendid palaces, the Palazzi dei Rolli that became a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2006. Built between the end of the Sixteenth and the Seventeenth Centuries by the patrician families of Genoa as their private residences, the magnificent homes were enrolled in a system of “public accommodations” in order to host the visits of “cardinals, princes and kings” and any other guest of the Republic.
Genoa is of course city of the Sea: “admirablement située en amphitheatre sur la mer” (Stendhal) it is the largest port in Italy and among the most important in the Mediterranean. The sea is the hub of an important touristic and cultural offer, thanks to the Porto Antico, restored by architect Renzo Piano who redesigned the area in 1992. At the Porto Antico there is the Aquarium of Genoa, the Galata Museum of the Sea; the Città dei Bambini or Children’s Museum anf d the WOW Science Center; the panoramic Bigo elevator; the National Museum of the Antarctic and the Luzzati Museum.
Among sea, culture and nature we can find the Nervi Parks, an extraordinary green area hanging on a cliff, seat of important museums; the parks represent the net of historical parks existing all along the town.

It is the headquarters of important industries, research centers, and is one of the leading cities in Europe in the sector of innovation and advanced technology. As a candidate to become European Smart City, Genoa demonstrates special attention to the application of new technologies and ICT for the sustainable development of the community.
